VP, Global Franchise Head – Hematology asset, Lymphoma & Leukemia

Reporting into the VP, Global Head, Hematology Franchise and Cell Therapy and sitting on the Leadership Team, the Global Franchise Head Hematology asset and Lymphoma & Leukemia is responsible for leading and delivering Lymphoma & Leukemia therapeutic area strategy and leading the hematology asset commercialization strategy and execution globally, to achieve revenue and earning objectives, to maximize the overall hematology and oncology commercial promise and ultimately deliver life changing care to patients. The position has full P&L responsibility for the relevant Franchise globally.
The Global Franchise Head will have the opportunity to continue the development of one of AstraZeneca’s leading franchises in cancer care, shaping and leading Global launches with the potential to help hundreds of thousands of patients. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal role in channelling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives and truly change the paradigm of care in cancer.
The position requires strong strategic thinking to assess a range of variables including market trends and opportunities, competition, research advances, etc., to develop strong near- and long-term strategies for the Franchise. Strong analytical skills combined with a strong market orientation to identify breakthrough opportunities are a must. This role will work closely with our Business Development team and our R&D teams to support commercial opportunities and identify key business and clinical opportunities to expand our leadership across Lymphoma and Leukaemia.
Accountabilities:
Accountable for overall hematology asset commercial and development strategies across all indications.
Develop resources and programs to support global launches.
Partner with core markets to prepare for unprecedented number of Phase III read outs and launches for hematology asset.
Lead Integrative Business Team(s) to manage the life cycle of our medicines.
Deliver and execute Phase 3/pre-launch marketing strategy & execution plans for hematology asset trials.
Lead and deliver commercial strategy for multiple additional indications (lifecycle management).
Work with extended team to deliver a sustainable pricing and access strategy for multiple indications.
Collaborate with Oncology R&D to lead hematology asset and lead the tumor area strategy across lymphoma and leukemia for the Oncology Business Unit.
Ideal Candidate attributes:
General Manager Acumen: Successful P&L Management experience.
Financial Acumen: Experience with revenue forecasting, expense management, business case development, including setting market price and management/communication of brand performance. Working knowledge of the business of oncology and regularly communicate performance updates/forecasts to senior leadership.
Stakeholder Alignment: Track record of strong cross-functional collaboration and experience gaining stakeholder alignment to move key initiatives forward. Gain alignment on critical issues/initiatives hold cross-functional partners accountable, including across Oncology Franchises.
Leadership & Talent Development: Proven track record of attracting and developing diverse teams and optimizing team performance in direct and matrixed leadership roles. Experience in defining organizational size, structure and capabilities based on long term business objectives for both Sales and Marketing. Ability to establish a clear Franchise vision and purpose and communicate it with passion and authenticity to the organization to shape culture.
Strategic Thinking: Experience leading development of oncology brands and/or oncology strategies which are founded on clear customer and market insights. Experience working in and/or leading customer facing roles. Able to serve as thought partner to Global Product Teams, Integrated Business Teams, and brand directors to define the development of future strategic direction for the franchise and communicate vision across all stakeholder groups.
Scientific Acumen: Comprehensive understanding of the oncology space as well as the clinical profile of our brands, oncology and competitor products (current & future) to shape life-cycle planning and management and interact meaningfully with scientific community and patient advocacy groups.
Commercial acumen and delivery: Focuses on delivering high-impact opportunities at scale by implementing customer-specific approaches. Experience in building as well as shaping markets.
Develop a Great Place to Work: Able to actively engage, inspire and create follower ship of diverse teams. Engenders trust, empowers team and has courageous conversations. Makes fair, impartial and informed talent decisions. Ability to assess and implement changes to franchise go-to-market model including size & structure of both sales and marketing teams.
Requirements:
Education
Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred (MD, PhD, MBA)
Experience
15+ years of successful commercial experience including leading P&L for large commercial units, including launch/post-launch of Hematology products
Strong strategic thinking, judgement and influencing skills, to influence R&D to ensure strong commercial focus
Strong leadership attributes to set direction, generate commitment, balance short- and long-term needs, constructively resolve issues
Proven experience and knowledge of a broad base of external customers including patients, prescribers, payors, providers and in/out license partners.
Global and country brand marketing experience, capable of developing compelling business cases.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively develop powerful marketing materials for our customers and to write and deliver effective presentations for senior internal stakeholders.
Strong strategic thinking and judgement and influencing skills, to influence and lead across local markets to ensure strong executional commercial focus
Delivery of high-impact above-market and in-market customer facing/shaping initiatives
Effective interactions with internal & external customers and stakeholders to drive success
Strong people management experience having led country or global teams
Knowledge
Significant knowledge & experience of drug development, particularly from Phase II through commercialization and launch
Thorough understanding of pharmaceutical marketing to specialty care healthcare professional audiences
Thorough understanding of general business and core marketing principles and application to pharmaceutical market challenges
Thorough understanding of the development process and necessary commercial touch points with cross-functional global product team members
Sufficient understanding of technical risks and the implications for the commercial aspects to future brands
Strong understanding of clinical data and biological mechanisms to be able to interpret and effective communicate the science
Sufficient understanding of technical considerations of clinical development and regulatory submissions and the commercial implications
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $330,263 - $495,395. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
